Varjak Paw is a Mesopotamian Blue kitten. He lives high up in an old house on a hill. He's never been outside the house. No-one in his family has, not since their legendary ancestor Jalal. But when the sinister Gentleman and his two black cats come to the house, Varjak must go outside alone into a dark and dangerous city to get help..

Three traits I would use to describe Varjak are courageous, determined and friendly.

Julius is bullying Varjak and this relates to our society because many people are being bullied by people older, and stronger than they are.

1. Varjak is different from his family because he is interested in the Jalal tales and is much more curious. The 3 traits I would use to describe Varjak so far are curious, brave, and determined.

1. Varjak is quite different from the rest of his family in many ways. His family thinks they are so perfect, but he is more into exploring and he doesn’t exactly think he is pure. I think his traits are: curious, because he wants to know all about the world around him, cowardly, because he is scared of a lot of things including Julius. And in a sense he is also determined because he will not stop until he gets a dog.

Julius in being prejudice to Varjack because Varjack has blue eyes but everyone else in the family has green.
The seven skills of Jalal
1.Open Mind
Means: that you have to be open to all opinions.
2.Awareness
Means: that you always need to be aware of you soundings because you never know what might be in the shadows.
3.Hunting
means: you have to not rely on someone to always do what you want and that you sometimes have to work to get what you want.
4.Slow- Time
Means: that you have to do things slowly sometimes and not rush.
5.Moving Circles
Means: That sometimes you have to do something over a couple of times to truly understand it.
6.Shadow- Walking
Means: that you have to learn to walk in the shadows unnoticed.
7.Trust Yourself
Means: That you have to believe that you can do something to be able to do it.

1. Varjak is different from his family in a couple of ways. For one he has yellow eyes instead green eyes. He asks his family about going into the garden to hunt. They disapprove of hunting. Three traits I would use to describe Varjak so far are: 1. Adventurous. Varjak is tired of being cooped up in the countess’s house. He wants to explore the outer world. 2. Truthful. Varjak tells his family only what he thinks is the truth. The black cats for example. 3. Believing. Varjak believes the old stories the elder paw tells him. He believes in Jalal. That may be why he sees Jalal in his dreams.

3. The seven skills in the way of Jalal are:
1) Open mind- I think that having an open mind means to not be narrow minded. Try to be able to see things in many ways not just the one that takes on a form of reality.
2) Awareness- having awareness means being able to see the things around you. Be aware of what is happening and try to make sense of it.
3) Hunting- Hunting is becoming part of the prey. Know it’s every movement. Use this technique to know the third skill. (Hunting.)
4) Slow time- Instead of having everything come speeding at you in a fast thought, think it over. You will do better if you take things in the slow-time way.
5) Moving circles- being able to move the things around you in your mind’s eye. Things will make more sense that way.
6) Shadow walking- Sticking to the shadows in order to stay safe when danger is around. Hidden in the shadows you will not be seen.
7) Trust yourself- If you are able to trust yourself, you can do things people who don’t trust themselves can’t. You will know that even though it may take a long time, the outcome is usually worth it.

3. “Seven Skills in the Way of Jalal” are open mind, awareness, hunting, slow time, moving circles, shadow walking and trusting yourself. I think open mind means open your mind to what other people say don’t just listen to one person. I think awareness means to be aware of your surroundings and look out for anything that doesn’t look normal. Hunting means to hunt not to be served by people but to hunt on your own in the wilderness. I`m not sure what slow time means but I think it means that time doesn’t move fast or use your time wisely.
